Motorcycle trip planner: plan a ride in 10 minutes

Last updated: 2026-09-21

A motorcycle trip is not just a route. It is a group of riders, an assembly point, a worthwhile stop or two, a way for family to follow along, and a fallback if something goes wrong. This is a walkthrough for planning all of that in one app.

1. The route

Open RideClan, tap Ride, pick Group Ride, and enter your destination. Motorcycle turn-by-turn navigation kicks in with voice guidance and a follow camera tuned for two wheels. In India and parts of Southeast Asia, the app uses two-wheeler routing that avoids flyovers where two-wheelers are banned. Elsewhere, standard driving directions apply.

2. Gas stops, food and coffee along the way

During navigation, tap the Fuel or Food chip to see options right on the route - not far off it. Add one as a via-point and the route recomputes to include it. This is how you avoid finishing a long stretch on a warning light or ending up 30 km off-course for lunch.

3. The group

Invite the crew with a QR code or a link. Everyone shows up on one live map in real time, with per-rider turn-by-turn to the shared destination. Drop an assembly point so nobody sets off in the wrong direction, and separation alerts warn you the moment a rider drops off the back.

4. The safety net

Share one Family SOS link before you set off. The people at home can follow your ride on a browser - no app, no account. If you raise an SOS, everyone in the group and everyone with your family link sees it instantly, with your live location.

5. The record

Every ride is recorded automatically with stats, replay and a shareable summary card. Export a GPX track (free in RideClan; paid in most other apps) if you want to keep the route in another tool.

What a good trip planner has to do

  • Route that survives real conditions - keeps guiding with the screen off, in a pocket, over Bluetooth voice.
  • Stops along the route - fuel, food, coffee - not searched, but suggested.
  • Group tools so a five-bike ride is not five separate rides.
  • A safety net that reaches both the group and the people at home.
  • A record you can look back at, replay, or export as GPX.

Frequently asked

Is there a free motorcycle trip planner?

Yes. RideClan is free on iPhone and Android and covers route, group, gas stops, family safety net and GPX export in one app. No Pro tier for the essentials.

Can I plan a motorcycle trip with gas stops?

Yes. During navigation, tap the Fuel chip and RideClan shows petrol pumps along your route (not far off it). Add one as a via-point and the route recomputes.

Can I plan a multi-day motorcycle tour?

Yes. Ride each day as a separate ride, and RideClan combines them into a Trip with combined distance, time and elevation on one page.

Can I plan a group motorcycle trip and keep everyone together?

Yes. That is what RideClan is built for. One live map for the whole group, an assembly point, per-rider turn-by-turn, separation alerts and group SOS.

Do I need to load the map before I ride?

RideClan needs a connection during the ride for live tracking. On typical routes with mobile coverage this is not an issue; for remote no-signal touring, a purpose-built offline app like calimoto complements RideClan for the offline stretch.
