Navigate a ride

Keep navigation running in the background (screen off)

RideClan keeps guiding you and sharing your live position when the screen is off or the phone is in your pocket, as long as it has the right permissions.

Applies to: Android and iPhone

Before you start

Background navigation needs Location set to Always on Android, or background location allowed on iPhone. On Android, also exempt RideClan from battery optimization so the system does not stop it while your phone is in your pocket.

  1. 1

Set Location to Always. When RideClan asks for location, choose Allow while using, then change it to Always when prompted. On iPhone, allow background location.

  2. 2

Turn off battery optimization. On Android, exempt RideClan from battery optimization so the system keeps it running with the screen off.

  3. 3

Allow Notifications. Keep notifications on so guidance alerts and group updates still reach you.

  4. 4

Start your ride. Begin navigating, then lock the screen or pocket the phone. Guidance and your live position keep going.

If it does not work

If navigation stops when the screen is off, an aggressive battery manager is likely killing the app - common on Realme, Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, and some Samsung phones. Open your phone battery settings and allow background activity and autostart for RideClan.

FAQ

Will this drain my battery?

Navigation and live tracking use GPS, which uses power, so keep your phone charged on longer rides. Location Always is what lets your group and family still see you with the screen off.

Does this work on iPhone?

Yes. Allow background location on iPhone and navigation keeps running with the screen off.
