Post and reply in the Community
Applies to: Android and iPhone
- 1
Open the Community tab. The fourth tab along the bottom. A small dot appears on it when there is something new since you last looked, rather than a count, because a number turns reading into a chore.
- 2
Read before you post. Sort by New to see the latest, or Top to see what riders found most useful. Someone may have already answered your question.
- 3
Start a post. Give it a title of up to 140 characters and a body of up to 4000. A specific title gets more replies than a vague one.
- 4
Pick a tag. Q&A for questions, Routes for a ride worth doing, Gear for what held up, Events for rideouts and meets, General for everything else about riding.
- 5
Reply and like. Tap a post to open it, then reply. Likes work on both posts and replies, and they are how useful answers rise to the top.
Which tag to use
Q&A is for anything you want to know, and no question here is too basic. Routes is for a ride worth doing, and the useful ones say where you started, where you finished, what the surface was like and where to stop for fuel. Gear is for what held up and what fell apart, and it is worth saying how many kilometres you have on it, because that is the part most reviews leave out. Events needs a date, a meeting point and a time or nobody can act on it. News and Announcement are reserved for updates from us, so posts you tag that way arrive as General.
Who can see your likes
Anyone. A like is not anonymous: tapping the like count shows who liked a post, with their name and photo. Worth knowing before you like something, and worth knowing that a like is a real signal from a real rider rather than a number we made up.
Posting limits
Up to 5 posts and 30 replies an hour. This is a spam brake, not a judgement on you. If you hit it, wait an hour and carry on.
FAQ
Is the Community only for Pro riders?
No. Reading, posting, replying and liking are free for every rider.
Can I post from the website?
No. The Community lives in the app. Reading and posting both happen on the Community tab.
Why did my post get the General tag when I chose News?
News and Announcement are reserved for updates from the RideClan team, so posts tagged that way are filed under General instead. Nothing is lost, and the post is still visible.
Can I edit a post after publishing it?
Posts cannot be edited at the moment. If something came out wrong, add a reply with the correction, which also keeps the thread honest for anyone reading later.
